How to Make Your Garden Pet Friendly

By Johnny / Fun & Recreation / July 14, 2020

The perfect way to spend the afternoon is to step out into the yard and play around with your dog. Dogs are curious animals and love the explore their surroundings. Although this means having to keep your rose beds safe from being dug up, it also means making sure that your dog remains secure while they play in the garden. Here are a few tips on how you can make your garden more pet-friendly to ensure the health and safety of your pup.

#1 – Fencing and Containment

It is important to ensure that the fencing around your garden is secure and maintained. Having a fence that’s tall enough is essential to containing the energy and the enthusiasm of your pup from having the best of them. The last thing you want is to have your pup jump into your neighbours’ yard and run around enjoying their newfound freedom. Dogs are a mischievous bunch, and to stop your pup from becoming an escape artist, you need to have a tall and sturdy fence around your garden.

#2 – Personal Space

To avoid having to clean up your whole garden, its best to designate a specific spot where your pup can take care of business. Having a place set out for them to go toilet is the best way to ensure that you won’t be having to carry plastic bags chasing your pup around the yard. With a bit of training and conditioning, your pup will understand the rules and get used to the arrangement as well.

#3 – Toxic Chemicals

Most people utilise some form of chemicals to help their plants stay bug-free or to root out weeds from the garden. Although this may be good for the plants, such chemicals can have adverse health effects on your pup. As dogs have the habit of running into bushes and onto your flower beds, the chemicals can attach to their fur or nose and cause allergic reactions or other conditions. It’s best to cut down on the use of chemicals and sprays if your dog is frequently out in the yard.

#4 – Keeping them Occupied

To contain the wanderlust of your pup and to help them focus their energies in a controlled manner, you can bring your dog their favourite outdoor toy when they play in the garden. This also helps keep your pup away from plants if they are the more adventurous type and will help them get some exercise as they play around with their toy and race across the yard.

Helping your dog get some physical exercise through play is an excellent way to ensure that they remain healthy and active. You can pair this habit with a focus on giving them a balanced diet, using high-quality dog foods such as HyproPremium, for that all-round good health that you want for your dog.
