How To Manage Your Dog Shedding

By Johnny / Grooming, Health & Wellness / August 7, 2019

It is a natural and necessary process for our furry friends to shed but can, unfortunately, leave parts of your house covered in dog hair. The good news is that there are some actions you can take to minimise excessive and messy shedding. The reason for your dog shedding is to replace their damaged and dead fur with new and healthy fur. To help you manage the shedding of your dog, we have created some tips to assist you:

Bathing

Bathing your dog on a weekly or fortnightly basis will contribute to limiting shedding by cleaning their coat and removing dead hair. There are deshedding conditioners and shampoos available that can help remove your dog’s excess undercoat and hydrate their skin and fur.

Brush your dog regularly

Brushing your dog daily or every few days will not only strengthen the bond between you and your dog, but it will minimise excessive shedding because it removes loose fur. Another benefit of brushing is that it keeps their coat looking shiny and smooth by stimulating hair follicles.

Nutritious diet

Feeding your dog a nutritious has a wide and invaluable range of benefits and one of them is that it will help control shedding. A high-quality food such as our Hypro Premium kibble promotes a healthy and lustrous coat as they are rich in omega 3, 6 and 9. We only use natural and nutritious ingredients from Australia so you can be confident that you are feeding your furry friend a balanced and complete diet.

Treat your dog with a quality tick and flea treatment

This will limit your dog from scratching their skin which causes extra shedding. A quality tick and flea treatment will also protect them against harmful parasites

It is important to note that the amount of shedding varies between breeds, general health and pregnancy status. All dogs have a normal shedding cycle where some shed throughout the year and others shed more during summer. We hope you find this guide helpful in limiting your dog’s excessive shedding.
