Many are oblivious to the role of working dogs. Despite the name, these animals are quite dissimilar to family dogs. These canines spend their days outside assisting farmers move livestock. This requires a formidable amount of strength, training and endurance. The dedication of these animals have proven invaluable to farmers. Earlier in 2018, a kelpie dog the most common breed of herding dogs, was sold on auction for a staggering $22,000.

The investment farmers have to make in those animals is considerable and so are their nutritional needs. While a large household dog on average needs 1,850 calories a day, working dogs burn in the whereabouts of 3000 – 4000 calories a day.
